Read below to hear from some staff already in these roles:

MICHAEL   (age 31)  Counter Assistant

Background: Security Guard, Mechanic
Why did you apply? I would chat to the local team and watched what they did and it seemed like something I would enjoy doing.
Favourite thing about the job: Great environment, really team work. Pros: I’m learning a trade without having to go to college. I’m working with my hands, learning new things every day and the manager and supervisor then lets you get on with it. They still check back but they trust you. Every day, is great craic with team and customers. I like getting to know them. My confidence has grown so much, speaking to customers but also sampling, which we do every day. When you get praise for doing well it feels great.
Hopes for the future: The last year has been great, I loved it! I turned down a job in the forces, good money maybe, but this job, learning to be butcher has been better. I just want to keep going the same way I have. Once i’ve completed level 2 maybe I can join the supervisor programme.

ROBERT   (age 37)  Counter Supervisor

Background: Kitchen Porter, Labourer, Call Centre Advisor, Joiner
Why did you apply?  It was something different. A new challenge. I had some customer service and new it would help.
Favourite thing about the job: Dealing with customers, getting to know them and what they need.
Pros: Opportunities have been good, I get to learn and progress. It's not hard, you are using your hands and skills you already have and learning something new that gives you a future. Training has been good, I find most of it very straight forward, and it is very relevant to what I am doing daily.
Hopes for the future:  More training and maybe run my own counter.

ANDY   (age 39)  Counter Manager

Background: Dishwasher /Waiter, Maintenance operative, Warehouse operative, Waiter, Security guard
Why did you apply?

It was something different, before I was working the nightshift, forklift driver and there was no work/life balance and this role would help achieve that. It was a new challenge and was nervous, but put head down, listen to my instructions and did well and I am proud of my accomplishment.

Favourite thing about the job: Dealing with customers, getting to know them and what they need
Pros:  Training, I got here with hard work and dedication. I’ve worked with different managers and you learn from all of the them and then find your own way. Plus, i’ve use my skills from previous jobs, it all helps

Support has been very good. There is a really good team spirit.

Hopes for the future: More of the same, perhaps some training. It’s good to always aim higher.

THIS IS NOT YOUR NEXT JOB. IT’S YOUR NEW CAREER...
