Successful candidates don’t always come from a sales or food background, but what does relate is their self-motivation, ability to chat (banter) with customers and their natural practical skills – which certainly helps when learning to bone a chicken, slice some steak or prepare the popular stir fry.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

We will provide training for everyone, whatever the level and there are real promotion opportunities.

For Counter Assistants, not only will you learn butchery skills, but after completing your probationary period you will also learn about ordering, stock control and effectively how to run a counter.

A driving licence, or access to public transport is essential, as you will be required to travel to other stores to complete your training.

For all roles, there is a competitive hourly rate, paid weekly, with holidays, product discounts, uniform, parking, pension, additional hours available and access to Tesco’s subsided canteen with free beverages.

We will email and/or call you to arrange an interview so please check your messages.

Our ‘closing dates’ can be flexible to don’t wait for the deadline, complete the application and return as soon as you can.

Every day, is great craic with team and customers. I like getting to know them. My confidence has grown so much, speaking to customers but also sampling, which we do every day. When you get praise for doing well it feels great.

Hopes for the future: The last year has been great, I loved it! I turned down a job in the forces, good money maybe, but this job, learning to be butcher has been better. I just want to keep going the same way I have. Once i’ve completed level 2 maybe I can join the supervisor programme.
