The Cost of Eating Local...
The cost of eating local…
Our chicken fillets are supplied from our local supplier in Richill. Like all the suppliers we partner with, they take animal welfare very seriously. As we we do - from farm to fork
The chickens are barn reared, giving them space to roam around and eat and drink as they please.
You can rest assured that our chicken chicken fillets are of the highest quality from well farmed local chickens.
Unfortunately, for us to continue supporting our #local partners and maintain the high quality produce, from today our 2.5kg tub of chicken fillets will go up in price from £12.50 to £12.99. (approx 5p more per fillet)
We try very hard to keep our prices as low as we can and we aim to be transparent with our customers. The increase in price does not benefit us in any way - the price has gone up for us by the same amount.
We believe the extra 49p per tub still offers extremely good value while maintaining the high quality, well farmed, local values of all our meat.
Thank you for joining us as we support local!
Meet our Staff - Lynda
This week, the staff member we are interviewing is our Veg shop supervisor Lynda. We asked Lynda to share a little more about her role at the Food Village...
Lynda keeps our busy Veg Shop in order, helping customers and keeping the stock fresh. She knows a thing or two about fresh fruit and veg!
Q1) Hi Lynda, can you tell us what you do in your role in the Food Village Farm Shop and how long you have worked at Primacy?
I joined primacy food village in September 2006 when it first opened. In the farm shop I'm responsible for ordering the grocery stock and the delicious traybakes/biscuits, tasty jams / marmalades to the yummy sweets and chocolates. We have a great selection of tempting items in store, making sure all our local fresh fruit and vegetables is checked in and up to standard before being put out for sale.
Q2) What do you enjoy most about your job?
I can honestly say 'I love my job', I enjoy what I do and meeting new people and the regular customers that I've got to know over the ten years. Its always good to have a catchup and bit of crack with them.
Q3) What does a typical day look like in the Farm Shop?
A typical day is always busy whether I'm filling out stock, ordering stock, serving customers, making up our famous fruit baskets and hampers which are available to order all year round and are very popular your day flies in.
Q4) Primacy Meats is well known for offering fresh, local and seasonal produce. In the Farm Shop you’ll see the produce coming in everyday - which of the produce is your favourite and what would you recommend?
Yes everyday we take delivery of our local fruit and veg every morning. I love the smell of the fresh soup vegetables, there noting tastier than a pot of home-made vegetable soup.
Q5) What would you say marks out the Farm Shop's produce as different from the bigger supermarket's when comparing the fruit, veg etc on offer?
When you compare the likes of cauliflowers, turnips and savoys, the farm shop's would always be larger in size fresh every morning and good value.
Q6) Finally, in 3 words how would you describe the Primacy Farm Shop?
I'd describe the Food Village Farm Shop as local, friendly and quality
Meet our Staff - Sam
This week, the staff member we are interviewing is Sam - the manager at the butchery counter at the Primacy Food Village. We asked Sam to share a little more about his role with us...
From poultry to paperwork, Sam runs a tight ship at the Primacy Food Village butcher shop.
Q1) Hi Sam, can you tell us what you do in your role as the manager of the Butcher Shop at the Primacy Food Village and how long you have worked at Primacy?
I have worked at Primacy Meats for just over 4 years. I started in one of the Primacy Meats Tesco outlets as Counter manager and then moved to the Food Village to manage the counter. My role is essentially to ensure the smooth running of the butchers shop area. I organise the staff, cut and prepare the meat for the window display as well as making sure that the counter display is A1 and ensure that the areas which are my responsibility are always clean, temperatures monitored etc. There is a fair bit of paperwork goes on behind the scenes!
Q2) What does a typical day look like on the Butchery counter?
A typical day for me starts at 7am. We start the day by cutting and preparing the meat and filling the counter display. Our aim is to get as much of the counter filled before customers start to arrive. The remainder of the day flies by in a flash as we are constantly serving customers, taking orders replenishing the counter and packing produce for the freezer displays. At around 4pm we start to wash down the butchery area. Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop and that set procedures are followed take up the remainder of my day.
Q3) What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love everything about it! I have always loved being a butcher - from cutting the meat to serving and getting to know our customers. I also enjoy the added responsibility of my management role and knowing that my skills and experience are being put to good use.
Q4) Primacy Meats is well known for offering fresh, locally sourced meat - what are the most popular cuts and meat packs with customers? And, as a butcher what is your favourite meat?!
The most popular cuts are pork chops, mince, steak pieces, chicken fillets, sausages and steaks. A lot of these items are available through our meat packs. The most popular packs are the Pick n Mix packs which range from £7 to £18. My favourite cut is the ribeye steak as I think that it has the most flavour.
Q5) For people who don’t shop regularly at the Food Village, what would you say marks it out from other shops locally?
I think our focus on quality local produce is what makes us stand out. We have one of the largest butchers counters in the whole of Ireland and stock an extensive range of meat products. The great range of quality frozen poultry products is also different from other shops as is the range of ready made meals supplied by our kitchen to the shop. The Food Village is essentially a one-stop-shop for quality produce. We aim to offer everything a customer could need to make breakfast, lunch and dinner...and if they cant be bothered they could visit the Tearoom and let us cook the same quality local produce for them! The range of ready made meals supplied by our kitchen to the shop is also something a little bit different.
Q6) Finally, in 3 words how would you describe the Butcher shop at the Primacy Food Village?
Fantastic range, Quality!
A look behind the scenes...get to know the Primacy team!
We have a great team of staff here at Primacy! From our butchers serving on the counters to our talented chef & cooks, the great team serving in The Village Tearoom and everyone else behind the scenes. Everybody working together is what makes the wheels run smoothly. Over the next few weeks we are going to introduce some of the team members and share a little about each of their roles. First up we have the lovely Nicki from The Village Tearoom...
Nicki is the welcoming face that greets you when you visit our Village Tearoom at the Primacy Food Village. As well as ensuring the Tearoom runs smoothly and our customers are happy, she also makes a great coffee and serves every customer with a smile!
Q1) Hi Nicki, can you tell us what your role in the Tearoom is and how long you have worked at Primacy?
I have worked in the Tearoom for almost 7 years. I am the Coffee Shop manager and my role is to ensure the smooth running of the Coffee Shop on a day to day basis and maintain its high standards.
Q2) Tell us what a typical day looks like for you.
Every day is busy! We start the day setting up the display, take breakfast orders and move on to lunch service before moving into Afternoon Tea time which is extremely popular... a great treat at a great price. No two days are ever the same.
Q3) What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy meeting lots of new people but I also really enjoy catching up with our regular customers. Its great to see families with babies now coming in as older kids for the kids meals.
Q4) Primacy Meats is well known for offering fresh, local and seasonal produce. Does the tearoom share the same ethos?
Absolutely the Tearoom shares the same ethos. All meat, fruit and veg comes from the Farm Shop. Local produce is very important. Our Tearoom also produces a great range of ready made meals for the Farmshop shelves as well as a range of accompaniments. If a customer enjoys lunch in our Tearoom they can then often purchase it in the Farmshop to take home.
Q5) The Village Tearoom always has a brilliant range of fresh desserts and traybakes - do you have a sweet tooth? If so, which of the sweet treats do you recommend?
I don't have a sweet tooth but can always be tempted by a nice light and tasty Jammy Joey!
Q6) Finally, in 3 words how would you describe the Village Tearoom?
I'd describe the Village Tearoom as family friendly, welcoming
